I wish to report my
latest publication based on
anthropological field research in the State of
Amazonas, Venezuela. It is a 51-page chapter in the book "Salud
Indígena en Venezuela, Volume I." (2007) Edited by Germán Freire
and Aimé Tillett. Caracas: Ediciones de la Dirección de Salud
Indígena. Published by the Ministerio del Poder Popular para la
Salud, with the collaboration of the Caribbean Institute of
Anthropology and Sociology of the Fundación La Salle. ISBN:
978-980-226-048-5.
The volume (and volume II) is the result of an
on-going discussion about indigenous Venezuelans’ access to health
care and native views about illness and health in contrast to the
biomedical paradigms that guide the national health care system.
Each chapter is a “mini-ethnography” about a native group.
