Susan Fifer Canby (Active) is Vice President of
Libraries & Information Services at the National Geographic
Society, a position she's held since 2003. She has been
instrumental in transforming the library from a print-based
organization to one at the forefront on using electronic-based
tools and services. In addition to library work, her 30+ years at
the Geographic has involved professional travel as farflug as
Turkey, China, and Australia/New Zealand. In 2006, she was invited
to make a presentation to the Croation Library Association.
Her publications include: "Climbing the Corporate Ladder,"
SLA Information Outlook, May 2005; "Librarians and
Leadership," SLA Information Outlook, May 2004; and "What
a Job! Why Should I say "Yes" to Chapter President-Elect," SLA
